Having barely escaped the onslaught in the palace, the company now finds itself flying together with Commander Sintar towards the shipyards. The stakes are high as the city beneath them is sinking into the chaos of a very badly planned revolution. Impulsive momentous decisions led them all there and it does not seem they're about to see the end of it.

Rise a Knight

After the captain request for a meeting in his cabin, all our heroes went from deck to the captain's cabin facing the four dwarves they previously saved. Without delay one of the dwarves hailed them soundly:
- My friends!
With no delay he rushed to Alast smiling. I am Glamdor for Bor, and those are my fellow marines, Glin, Glanarad and Goronin. Following simultaneous acknowledgment nodding their heads, he provided Alast with a firm handshake and with a gift of kings. Or pirates if I may say. A magnificent handgun, with his respective 36 bullets and a keg of powder. As now they were all facing each others, the tallest one, Glamdor, started to tell their story.

-We have no words nor gifts to express our gratitude for having saved us. We were travelling back from Ljuk toward Port Daw, fleeing the war threats coming from the iced step. A few days ago, maybe 3 or 4, a small party found us. One heavy armoured Drakkarim boat and two Giaks frigate. Our good captain Gilatan ordered to attack them, a bold move, but wise as we would never be able to evade those three ships in plain day light. We fought our way to the armored ship, as we knew distance would be suicide, we needed to board them. We did after sinking one of the frigate. The other one got us while we boarded the armored one. As we fought surrounded by enemies and flames set ablaze in the armored one, we all jumped on board the frigate with captain Gilatan following Xoa a crazy Telchos Warrior making this journey with us. Our daring attack saved us as a few minutes afterward the exploding Drakkarims boat took out ours. We were finally taken prisoners but Xoa fought like a lioness protecting her cubs. She felt at the hands of a Liganim. His dark magic killed her slowly, for the giaks' delight. We spent the following days being tortured. The captain... died in the hands of the Liganim. They were looking for something, we couldn't understand what or who, so we provoked their rage. Curse their Blood!

- We can't offer you much more than we already did, but you'll have our eternal gratitude and respect. We expect to meet you in Port Daw, where we'll be able to repay you fully for your help. The few we had was given to captain Franklin as a token of gratitude for his kindness and support. We'll be at your service, look for us at the Port Daw shipyard, we'll need a couple of month till we get another beauty on the water.

More out of need than greed Gustavius couldn't let the opportunity to ask for a spare gun go, as his own previously misfired. So he asked for a gun whom sadly was given by the dwarves as it was Gilatan's gun. But after today, they would know that he would serve the will of the gods against the evil doing. Solemnly, Gustavius took this token of gratitude and reconnaissance of his own role in this never ending war. This gun wasn't only a gunsmith masterpiece, it was also the last gift of a fallen comrade. Before he managed to have the time to properly thanks his benefactors Franklin came in, acknowledging first his dwarves guests assuring them they'll be left at Ljuk or back to Tyso if this is their will. Sealing this oath with a round of Bor's best brew they drank. Mulchanor fainted. Weird are the dwarves in this company, they seems to not be able to handle their own beer. They left the company and the captain with a choice to be made, while our heroes waited impatiently for this new turn of events. They would be able to finally know what were the direction to take.

As the door closed Alast ran into it, smashing himself on the wood. Griselda tried to go for the door but the captain Franklin was firm enough to retain them while he had to deliver his message. He started by a laconic:

- I'll hope you be able to fulfill your mission, we almost all die for it. Most of my men did. Some even friends of mine.

After knowing he had their attention he continued at quick pace, as he knew time was running against them.

- Jakob Frist will be your contact, he runs the Kilithanin house here in Ljuk. He doesn't know you also work for Huldrak. He only know you are adventurers presented as peace envoys. He will provide you whatever you need to reach Ikaya in time and as safe as possible. Suddenly Gustavius, Alast and Erleothir get a weird stomach cramps making them uncomfortable. Unexpectedly Lightning was feeling great. Franklin didn't seem to be aware or taking care of this and followed his speech.
- We don't really know what is going on here, but it seems war is at Ljuk doorstep. Go to Ikaya, find what is happening and bring Dark Raven and Kilithanin here. The Brumalmarc is the answer, kill only if you must! If you set all Ikaya on your tail not even our walls will protect you. Remember we seek peace, not war.

Rushing without knocking a mariner to Franklin:
- Captain! We have a welcome comity waiting for us!
- Raise the Sommerlund flag and close the hatches. I'll go introduce them to the harbormaster.

As the mariner left the room, Franklin continued:
- Now is the time. I'll introduce you to the harbormaster, he'll get you the papers to set foot on Ljuk and perform your "diplomatic mission". Go and seek the Kilithanin house and Jakob will do the rest. I'll go to the admiralty inform them of the Giak attack. The dwarves will come with me.

- I hope to see you again, sixteen days, I can't wait no more. Find what is needed to be found and come back to us. Otherwise you'll have to wait another six months to come back. Now go and get your gear, the harbor-master won't wait for any lady!

Good luck, he said, opening the door for them. Griselda was one of the first to go, seeking something or someone. The dwarves probably. All the others went down to get their belongings, Alast found his backpack with an hole and some personal objects destroyed. Even dead Marghal managed to hurt him where it could him most. Valuables.

Now with the mariners hastily getting the ship to port they saw some guards near the place they were supposed to touch land, were waiting silently for them. The harbour master was a tiny big fellow, but he knew his power and position, he awaited patiently for Franklin to hail him respectfully.- Good day my Lord Harbormaster! How is family?

- Good my captain, if it wasn't for this war at our doorstep! But I see you encountered some difficulties of your own...

- Nothing that we couldn't handle my old friend! We can talk around a good pint of beer about this and other things... But first can you help me getting rid of those... diplomats? They are envoys to make the brumalmarc change his mind. But I am sure you already know about this...
A smile full of pride answered:

- Indeed my captain friend, it may prove to be suicide to negotiate now, even for those... diplomats, " tribes attacked our walls last night, destroying some houses. Are you sure they are up to the task? Going back and forth to Ikaya bringing a deal is not for everybody!
- I will trust the will of whom send them here, they come in name of the Sommerlund.
- As you wish dear friend but now come! Let my man deal with the paperwork.

As the heroes came down the down Franklin left a last warning for them to hear:
- Good luck my friends, may Ishir be with you and lead your quest to an happy ending for the sake of our land!
Erleothir was already taking down carefully the wooden bridge to avoid, he hoped, a possible fatal accident. As the company had finally touched Kalte ground, the tedious Name and purpose bureaucratic test was slowing down the company, eager to set on march this next adventure. Unexpectedly Lightning started to question the purpose of this control and tried to question the legality of the soldiers as he was an emissary of the Sommerlund. All the company tried to calm down the situation but this time Alast was faster than everybody and simply punched him in the face. The mage faded out solving this issue before it became out of their hands. Now they were taking 2 corpses with them. One drunk and one bruised unconscious mage. After this incident the newcomers were welcomed by an old lady, Uri, whom house burned to the ground. Erleothir and Gustavius helped the woman with a food ration, at least she was now able to wait for more help from the mayor with her stomach full. As they were walking to the Kilithanin house, one little boy whom name was Pierec run directly to Erleothir seeking the help of the young Knight. He claimed that since the attack he had no place were to live. Tuff decision for Erleothir, whom found that the best way to help the boy was to turn him into a Soldier. Hailing a patrol nearby he provided them with the young boy and some money to be trained as a knight. A simple but efficient decision that made the naive child smile. Without doubt, Erleothir smiled back, having once more made a choice whom he could be proud of.

As the company entered the Kilithanin house, Jacob's guard greeted them with a short "Jacob Frist is upstairs and waiting for you. Leave your dead here we'll take care of the bodies..." - "they're not dead!" promptly exclaimed the group. "just.. indisposed. can we leave them here anyway?" No sooner than the guards acknowledged this the company already had dropped the unconscious bodies on the floor and Heading to Frist's office.

The room with view to the port was richly decorated with trophies from the local wildlife and plenty of antiquities and objects probably recovered from both Ikaya and the wandering barbarian tribes. Sitting behind a desk at the end of the room was an older and Kemp man wearing fine clothes. "ah the Summerlund envoys!" smiled Frist "it's always nice to have the visit of fresh adventurers" - "Jacob Frist, I presume?" hazarded Erleothir - "precisely, if you might...." - "impressive collection" burbled Gustavius, appraising the displayed artefacts with a keen eye "may I have a closer look at them?" Upon hearing this Erleothir gulped heavily and gave a quick glance at Alast. Luckily he was too busy picking his nose and somehow failing to notice the possible loot. Griselda was doing what she does best: standing leaned against a wall with a stoic and bored look across her face. But Frist was obviously in his element and happily allowed Gustavius inspect the room. "yes, all of these are trophies I gathered in my younger years. You know, I was also quite an adventurer before. I've been through all hard times that you will still have to endure. I have heard you ran into difficulties while sailing here ?" - "yes" replied Erleothir "we were beset by a Giak Frigate" - "pests, killed many of them... how did they looked like?" - "still grey and ugly" muttered Gustavius - "Talking about giaks, some scouts recently found a dead giak patrol in a crevasse out there in the snow..." - Gustavius raised an eyebrow "Giaks in Kalte ? not entirely their natural environment" - "that's what we thought as well" countered Frist. Erleothir was about to add something but Gustavius interrupted the discussion again discovering a strange looking sword "what's this weapon?" - "oooh this a fine piece of barbarian weapon-mastery, this sword is entirely made of bone. But tell me more about this sea fight - not that I have never been in one - but I am really curious about how you handled the situation." - Erleothir frowned "Well, as I said, a Giak Frigate, they even had a Liganim" - "ohhh those ones " acknowledged Frist "killed 5 or 6 of them myself... how did yours looked like ?" Erleothir and Gustavius exchanged a quick glance "well, a magical being, it's a... well..." an idea crossed Erleothir's mind "did you know that Giaks love to fight in the bright sunlight ?" he asked under Gustavius amused grin - "of course, naturally !" exclaimed Frist. "Stop this Masquerade right now!"ordered Erleothir "you're not an adventurer! you're just pretending to have traveled the world ! why are you lying to us ?" Frist lost all assurance on this sudden outburst "please my friends not so loud.. yes, you are right, I am not the adventurer I pretend to be... what I do all day is calculating the costs of those wares while buying some baubles from the barbarians and spinning tall tales... but please, do not tell anyone"

a grim look appeared on the faces of most of the adventurers "hehe, we have him ! he is on our mercy, we can ask whatever we want..." were probably the thoughts of all. But those thought were suddenly interrupted by a very uneasy feeling coming from their bowels... Erleothir started to sweat and turning slightly pale while the others where clutching their bellies. "Restrooms, quick!" uttered Gustavius. no sooner than Frist had showed them the way that Griselda and Gustavius were rushing off in a mad dash. For some reason only the pirate did not seem to bother with civilized amenities, he proceeded by pulling his trousers down and headed for the nearest window under the horrified look of both Erleothir and Frist. "GUARDS !!! Remove those men from my house !"

"nonono, that can not be true ..."

and so they stood in front of the Kilithanin house... No actually only Erleothir, Griselda and Gustavius were standing. The others were all lying on the floor, unconscious. Helplessness across their face. What to do now ? Their contact in Ljuk had failed and they were now put on themselves. The best would be to head back for the ship and take some rest before unloading the dogs, sleds and material early on the next morning. The marketplace was bustling with people going to and fro and only Gustavius seemed to feel uneasy about this. Suddenly Griselda felt someone was picking her pockets, quickly she grabbed the woman by the hand and to her surprise it was a man disguised... Erleothir on his side also made some acquaintance with the local scum. Just as the thief was about to vanish, Erleothir grabbed him as well and fractured his scull with the hilt of his sword in a failed attempt to just knock the thief out. Griselda was less lucky, the transvestite had pulled a knife out of somewhere in his dress and planted it right in her leg. Griselda fell on the ground and the second burglar was about to rush away when the cannon of Gustavius bor-rifle appeared right in front of his face. "if you're smart you won't move..." But the thief was not smart. He started running away across the place. "STOP THE THIEF!" yelled Erleothir. In a split second the place was deserted apart from the fleeing pickpocket. Gustavius aimed for his legs and shot. The bullet tore the thief's right leg away. "wrong decision" sighed Gustavius upon seeing the thief bleeding to death.

Griselda tried to reach for another piece of blanket out of her backpack to stop the bleeding of her wound, Gustavius promptly helped her. Erleothir knelled over the now leg- and harmless thief in an attempt to extract some information before the villain would expelled his last breath, but he was interrupted by a gruff voice "why won't you fight with me, Knight ?" Erleothir glanced over his shoulder and slowly stood up to face a towering champion wearing a, maybe dented but nevertheless, impressive armour. With a slight grin the champion slowly unsheathed a massive broadsword from his scabbard on his back. it was of those broadswords that are commonly wielded with both hands. But the champion did not really seemed to care about what is common and what not, he was easily holding it in his right hand as a kid holds a wooden sword. For some reason this completely failed to impress Erleothir who did exactly the same gesture. "Lower your weapon fellow knight, those people were trying to rob us..." - "I don't really think he is a knight" interrupted Gustavius "if you'd ask me, I would say he is more the leader of the bandits. Just let me reload my gun and we're rid of him..." - "Your dwarven friend is right." scoffed the champion "now... I think you have already accepted my duel request." A knife suddenly whizzed past the villain's head and inserted itself harmlessly in a door frame behind him. Erleothir angrily turned around "By Ishir ! Griselda ! this is something between him and me. please don't interfere." - "I think she really wants to kill something" joked Gustavius, "now if you may step a bit to the left I can have a clear shot at that ..." - "Put this gun down!" interrupted Erleothir "*I* will handle this!" Gustavius secured his gun and mumbled something about "was nice meeting you..."
The duelists were now facing each other, waiting for the first one to strike gauging each others and waiting for the first mistake.

No words were needed. They clashed soundly avoiding each other blows. No unnecessary moves were taken, some blow silently taken. Smile could be seen on their faces. Erleothir was much younger, but he fought with his sense or righteousness. Against pride and daring assaults. Wounds were open, battle-cries shouted, Gods help requested. Honest and sneak attack made. But the fight was going on favor to none, gathering the populace around this new city attraction. After some taunting it was now a silent combat that none was willing to break out of silence. It wasn’t two man fighting it was two ideals confronted in a deadly dance. A daring move made Erleothir’s shield put Talin on the floor, weapon less and at his mercy.
- You seem to have won young knight… But I am sure we can reach an agreement. Let me go and…
- And what Talin? Interrupted a knight from around the corner, with his patrol of Sommerlund guards. What do you think you can offer to this young lad? You already disgraced yourself choosing to become a bandit. Let him live the lifde you chose to deny!
- My friend, let me introduce you to Talin a fallen knight whom left us a few years ago. I am Captain Rimaroh, captain of the Guards of Ljuk.
After this short introduction, and without any semblance of wait for an answer he shouted:
- Guards! Take him to the dungeon! Let him wait there for the Justice of men. And you, he said looking around searching for an interlocutor, I thanks you for cleaning the street of those bandits! You served well Justice today! May Ishir open the path you'll take.
Words came from the mouth of our heroes, but they were covered by the applauses of the populace. Only when Rimaroh talked the voices were silent.
- I see that one of you is one of my fellow Sommerlund knight... tell me young lad, have you taken your oath for Justice and the Sommerlund? What is your name? Speak with no delay!
- I... hem hem... I am Erleothir! The louder sound of his voice was now over the crowd. They knew the show wasn't over for today. First a battle for Justice, then this. I am in my quest to became a knight of the Sommerlund if Ishir and my king allows me to prove my deeds in battle and by my actions.
Solemnly, Rimaroh told him to Knee. The silence was now respectful, only the sea interrupted this moment with her caresses over the wind. Presenting his sword to Rimaroh, Erleothir took his Oath in a city he never thought he would visit one day, with the company of such Hazardous companions. Proudly Rimaroh took Erleothir sword and accepted his word and Oath turning him into a Knight-Aspirant. As a noble steed, Erleothir took back his sword, containing tears of joy and pride while all the present people erupted joyfully for him. Rimaroh looked at him as a father look at his son after his first success. They were bounded to each other for ever.

The cheering woke Alast up "sorry, I passed out, did I missed something?" - "The usual stuff, you got beaten up by guards, people tried to rob us, we perpetrated a bloodbath, Erlothir dueled some colossus and just got oath-sworn... and your pants are still down" - "well, that was surely entertaining" - "yeah, I think we have made enough friends in this town for today."

The company quickly acknowledged that they should head back to the ship without further interruption but for some reason Gustavius on his side, seemed eager to go to the local store and would join them in half an hour. He promptly disappeared in the populace while the Company faced a new problem:
"Sir you may not pass this point..." started a guard at the dock. Erleothir sighed and interrupted him promptly "Now listen: We have the red passes. We may travel here freely around. We do not intend to have to repeat our name and purpose every 5 minutes. We will now get on this ship, and tomorrow morning we will get off again, and we strongly wish not to be interrupted again with this bureaucratic .." but now it was the guard turn to interrupt Erleothir's elaborated rant "Sir ! the Valtariol's under quarantine. Nobody gets aboard this ship and nobody leaves it. Now move along, there's nothing to see." An uneasy silence followed... "You know what? let's not get on this ship and head for the inn instead."

A sulfurous maid welcomed them "it's 10 gold a night, breakfast included, here's a token for a free bor brew... now, how many rooms ?" - "10 gold for all of us, good deal" smiled Alast "no it's 10 per person, dumbass" retorted the maid. "you should really improve your bluffing skill" mumbled Griselda to Alast while Erleothir was laying an heavy eye on him. Lightning had a quick look at the bar but decided that this place was not exactly what he had in mind: "tell me where is the temple of Ishir ?" as soon as the Maid had finished explaining him the way Erleothir grabbed Lightning aside: "what do you want to go to the temple now?" - "well, as a Dessi mage I am always welcome at the temples, there i will enjoy a nice free meal and a room of... slightly superior quality than here... until then. cheerio!" - Erleothir frowned "we'll have to talk, now make sure to be at the Valtariol by dawn tomorrow..." All remaining adventurers paid there dues, and dragged ths still unconscious Mulchanor in his own room after lightening his purse a bit. While Griselda took the maid aside asking her if she could be of any help to treat her wound with some herbs from the kitchen, Erleothir headed back to the port hoping to catch Gustavius on his way back to the ship. They soon both found the way back to the inn, Gustavius seemed annoyed and something was clearly nagging at his mind ".. i can't believe the ship is under quarantine, this hinders our plans to... say, what did you bought that whip for?" - "the whip ? oh I just got some idea" responded Gustavius evasively "but you are right, Erleothir, this quarantine report bugs me. Did the guards said anything about an illness ?" - "why?" - Gustavius went on: "let's face it, we all started getting sick this morning, we probably passed through the grid of the guards because of that fight Lightning almost started, but the rest of the crew as not so lucky... then again at the kilithanin house around three hours later. And you know what's baffling me the most ? Lightning. he was not sick today. where is he now?" Erleothir's eye lit up "You might be right, there could be something behind it, He was very... 'healthy' the whole day. He left us a few moments ago and intended to spend the night at the Temple of Ishir." Gustavius snarled slightly "parasite... if I'm correct, the sickness attacks occur every three hoursblaaaaaaarggghhhh" he was not able to finish his sentence as horrible stomach cramps had the better of him and he actually started throwing up... and worse. Erleothir turned pale again, and from one of the guests rooms Alast could be heard cursing loudly. When things calmed down for them, Alast went with Gustavius to exchange their tokens for food or money. As the beer didn't work so well for the group. Luckely or not, the maid liked them and made them drink the beer for free if they could take one straight down. Fool they were when they did. Alast took it as he was a Dwarf, but Gustavius was seriously losing some basic capacities as walking in line. When they came back Erleothir found them both happier and still with a Bor Beer in their hands. Mulchanor was still snoring loud in his room. Lightning was listening to the chant in the Temple, recovering from all of his travels, body and soul were cleansed here. Griselda was recovering, alone now, lost in her inner desert. Still under the effect of his great day, Erleothir didn't give much attention to his now merrier friends. A sound louder than he should coming from outside alerted all the tavern. Gustavius took his gun shouting:
- A Bor rifle, near the town square. Attttaaaack....!!!
Rushing out, he was followed by Alast running behind him.
A Knight rose.
Erleothir now followed them.
